When the Seniors Foundation was formed in 1981, its purpose was to provide financial support for Aging Partners Senior Centers, which were located throughout the city of Lincoln and Lancaster County. Included are the Northeast Senior Center, the Lincoln Downtown Senior Center and the purchase of the old Clayton House Hotel that was converted to low-income housing for the elderly in downtown Lincoln.
Over the years, the Foundation’s purpose has broadened to encompass all forms of quality of life enhancements for seniors in Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska. Since the last building campaign in 1994, the Foundation has raised funds to purchase transportation vans, community use computers and exercise equipment—among other projects. Its goal is to enrich the lives of seniors through programs, services and senior centers in Lincoln/Lancaster County. In 2000, the Foundation was renamed to Seniors Foundation to encompass all Aging Partners programs and services.
In the summer of 2011, Seniors Foundation was awarded the opportunity to develop the Veterans Hospital site, 600 S 70th Street, Lincoln, NE. Our vision celebrates the beauty and integrity of this historic site. We look forward to bringing new vibrancy to the campus and surrounding commercial areas. Preliminary plans focus on a “one campus” concept combining Aging Partners and Veteran services including programs, social gatherings, medical services and housing opportunities.
Recently with assistance from the Seniors Foundation, a new program called NeighborLNK was created to help keep homebound seniors (age 60 and over) healthy, connected, and independent during the physical isolation required by the pandemic, as well as to cultivate bonds of friendship which could potentially last beyond the pandemic. NeighborLNK volunteers run errands for the participants and offer companionship through phone or video calls. COVID-19 precautions are followed, and volunteers do not enter participants’ homes.
This year, In lieu of the annual Keystone Luncheon, the Seniors Foundation partnered with the Veterans Freedom Music Festival to host today’s event.
We are asking you to please consider participating in and giving to the Seniors Foundation for the Flag Day Drive-Through event at Victory Park. Your support is vital in our mission to support the important programs and services provided by Aging Partners.
